Case Study

Ardkeen Superstores Ltd

Ardkeen Superstores LtdUtility service  has been a client of ours since 2008. The company operates Ardkeen Quality Food Store in Waterford which is one of the premier independent supermarkets in the country. This client has a number of electricity and gas supplies covering multiple areas in the county of Waterford. The electricity tariff types range from large low voltage maximum demand supplies, General Purpose Nightsaver supplies, General Purpose supplies and even a domestic supply. We have managed them all under our full service scope including the four gas supplies, both SBU and MBU. Over the years we have renewed the contracts, monitored each supply by looking over the monthly bills, corrected errors and obtained refunds.

An example of the importance of on going monitoring –

Technical Bit – There’s a charge that is applied by energy suppliers over the winter months (November – February inclusive) on LVMD tariffs. It is called a Winter Demand Charge.

Story Line – In Ardkeen’s case, the supplier continued to apply this charge past February which resulted in an overcharge in excess of €1,000. Our analysts picked up on this error and were able to obtain a refund quickly and efficiently.

The Point – This occurred a number of years after Ardkeen had originally signed with us showing that errors can occur at any time and cost you thousands if left unchecked.
Most of our customers, including Ardkeen Superstores Ltd, will testify to the fact that procurement and on-going monitoring are vital to their organizations, mainly to avoid overpaying for something which is already one of the leading overheads in business…… energy.

“We use Avail Energy to assist and advise us in relation to our energy supplies.  As a very significant expense item it is imperative that we extract the best value possible from our energy suppliers.  We have found Avail to be efficient and highly competent and I would happily recommend them.”
